Update Your MyNCBI Libraries to Take Advantage of "Free" Full-text Articles

My NCBI allows you to search PubMed and many of the other National Library of Medicine databases by filtering results to your personal preferences, and saving search results, among other things.   The Library LinkOut filters allow you to tap into Ministry Library and Badgerlink full-text holdings—for FREE!

If you use My NCBI, consider updating your Library LinkOut options to take advantage of Badgerlink and Ministry Library Services’ full-text offerings.

Here’s how :

Go to PubMed : http://pubmed.gov

Sign into My NCBI as you normally would.
            >My NCBI
            >NCBI Site Preferences
>Filters & Icons
            >Select LinkOut
                        > Select Libraries
Search for : Affinity / Ministry Health Care Library icon
and  WI Dept of Public Instruction (Badgerlink)

For screen shots leading you through the steps above, click here.

For more information about My NCBI and what it has to offer, click here.

Many (not all) of the Publisher links will work at an Affinity / Ministry computer, because we’ve  subscribed to the journals.  However, we do not have access to every single article in the PubMed database.  If you do find a citation for which you are unable to get the full article, contact one of your Librarians.  We have additional options and can usually acquire a copy on your behalf, at no cost to you.

Update your PubMed Shortcuts and Bookmarks

We have a new link that takes advantage of Ministry/Affinity Libraries and Badgerlink full-text journal offerings.

If you use the NEW link above to search PubMed, you’ll see additional options for full-text.  This new link makes it much easier to get to full articles WITHOUT whipping out your credit card.

Click on the icons at the right (circled in red).

As long as you are using a Ministry / Affinity computer, you should be able to click through to the full articles, if available.

Many (not all) of the Publisher links will work at an Affinity / Ministry computer, because we  subscribe to the journals.  However, we do not have access to every single article in the PubMed database.  If you do find a citation for which you are unable to get the full article, contact one of your Librarians.  We have additional options and can usually acquire a copy on your behalf.

Online Access to Health Affairs

Online Access to Health Affairs

Health Affairs has long been a favorite journal for health care policy makers.
As of Jan 2014, Library Services is offering online access to Health Affairs.  As long as you are using an Affinity or Ministry computer (or remote access), you should be able to get to full-text articles in Health Affairs.

From their website : “Health Affairs is the leading journal of health policy thought and research. The peer-reviewed journal was founded in 1981 under the aegis of Project HOPE, a nonprofit international health education organization. Health Affairs explores health policy issues of current concern in domestic and international spheres. Its mission is to serve as a high-level, nonpartisan forum to promote analysis and discussion on improving health and health care, and to address such issues as cost, quality, and access.”

To sign up for Health Affairs eTOCs / Alerts , contact Deb Knippel.

Nativity Set a Mercy Holiday Tradition

A special piece of Mercy Medical Center's history has found a place of honor this holiday season.    A hand-painted nativity set that was rediscovered at the back of a little-used closet of the old hospital in 1980, is now proudly displayed behind the glass protection of a display case.

The nativity set was quite old and in sad condition when it was first found.  However, the loving hands of Volunteer Dolly Pahlow set to work attaching broken pieces and even recreating an angel wing when needed.  She spent months patching and painting the 20 figures in their original colors with the encouragement of former food service director, Bob Brennan.

In the years since, the manger scene has traditionally been displayed in the open in the cafeteria at both the old and new Mercy Medical Center Buildings.  It is currently on display in one of the Hallmarks of Mercy display cases, outside The Clark Family Health Science Library.
