Bridging Research and Practice: Librarians Share their Expertise in Evidence-Based Practice

During the week of June 23 – 27, 2014, Library and Information Consultants, Michele Matucheski and Deb Knippel, had the pleasure of participating in the week-long Evidence-Based Practice workshop led by Robin Kretschman, Vice President Patient Care Services.
It was a win-win experience as we were able to be at the table and work with nurses as they developed their research questions, gaining a more thorough understanding of the context of their questions.  In exchange, the nurses had the expertise of the Librarians to immediately assist them with their searching/research.
In response to being asked to teach the Searching day of the class, Michele Matucheski, developed an Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) LibGuide.  The EBP LibGuide pulls together the recommended EBP tools and resources all in one place, making it easier to locate the best evidence.  It can be accessed from the Library Without Walls intranet website.

The nurses also gained in-depth knowledge of the Library databases and how these and the Librarians are able to help them with their reference needs.  We were able to demonstrate how we can be a vibrant and viable part of their “Teams” as they work on quality and process-improvement projects that improve patient care.   For assistance in using the library resources, research  questions, acquiring articles, and/or requesting a literature search, contact  Michele Matucheski  or Deb Knippel via Outlook.
